1768, THE FOUNDATION
For a period of time, we believed REVOL was created in 1789. But in fact, history has proved otherwise. Since 1768, 9 generations of the same family have run the company…

We are manufacturers, traders, merchants and master potters from father to son. Everything started in Lyon when Pierre Revol and Magdelene Carrier, who came from two potter families, got married.
The Drôme grounds had then very specific properties and offered all the resources needed to create a stronger and more resistant ceramic. The quality of the clays and sand, and more specifically the kaolin deposits, were the main factor in the manufacturing of the first REVOL clay. Pierre and Magdalene didn’t know that they were about to launch a company that would last all those years.
1980, FROM THE OVEN TO THE TABLE
In 1980, the 8th generation, Bertrand Passot (the family name has changed because of marital unions), took the leadership of the company. He began a rigorous restructuring plan: he invested in new machinery and trained the employees. He promoted and enhanced the know-how of the company and decided to improve the quality of REVOL’s clay by refining the firing process.
From that point, the company changed to exclusively manufacturing porcelain and became Revol Porcelain. REVOL conquered the international markets with creations of a culinary range of products that combine both aesthetics and functionality. In 2000 Revol launched the Froissés collection. This little cup is a huge success and it becomes a cult object.
INNOVATION AND DESIGN AT THE HEART OF REVOL’S STRATEGY
Design and communication but more important, innovation (research and development), are at the center of the company’s strategy. Whether they’re developed in-house, like the Arborescence and Belle Cuisine ranges, or are the result of collaborations with designers and publishers – Succession or the new Caractere series – Revol products is in perpetual experimentation in the field of ceramics.
REVOL has evolved from being an oven to table brand to a design oriented company now offering new dinnerware lines that would combine the quality of a professional use with the look of a cozy home-dining feeling.
UNCOMPROMISING QUALITY
Nine generations of accomplished and passionate artisans and technicians have passed down their skills and love for the craft. Nowadays, numerous stages of our production are still made by hand, safeguarding the precision of the gesture and the beauty of the object. We define ourselves as manufacturers because this is what we do. We are continually demonstrating technical innovation, creativity and ingenuity. We benefit from ultra-performing production equipment as well as a very sophisticated production process. The ingredients, essential to the manufacture of Revol’s culinary porcelain, are all carefully selected: clay, quartz, feldspar and kaolin are carefully combined in a unique composition called “barbotine.” We are one of the last remaining porcelain makers in France, and one of the few in the world, to make our own clay. This allows us to better adapt it to various manufacturing processes. In our internal design office, and in partnership with outside designers, we design our own models and molds of production.
Revol is going above and beyond in order to help conserve our planet’s resources, recycling and taking advantage of our industrial waste water to dramatically reduce the use of water and primary minerals in our porcelain production.
Our aim – to be the first to offer the hotel and restaurant industries eco-friendly made from ceramic clay and recycled enamels - is now reality. We’re delighted to share with you this unique invention. For Revol, in partnership with you, our customers, sustainable development is already here.
NO WASTE REVOLUTION
Recyclay is the result of a revolutionary, new way of treating our industrial waste water.
This new technology allows us to purify the water in order to return it to its natural state and recover the mineral matter from our clays and enamels.
From this we can create a new ceramic clay with the same technical properties as other Revol ceramics. By applying for a patent, the brand is reaffirming its status as a pioneer in the world of innovative ceramics.
FRENCH STYLE
After 250 years, the factory is still firmly rooted in the undulating green landscape in the Drome. REVOL is proud to be at the top of innovation and design, equipping the most demanding kitchens, whether those of famous chefs or everyday cooks. Today, we have the same desire to bring out unique talents, bringing our products to the loveliest tables, with kitchenware and other cult objects and design pieces that embody art de vivre.
